Dave Johnson Restorations specializes in returning vintage Les Pauls back to original condition. While our main specialty are Les Pauls, I also restore other guitars as well.
Guitars in various conditions from cracked headstocks,
over-sanded tops, bad pickup routes, bad finishes, missing inlays, broken necks, fingerboards, and poorly routed bodies can be restored.
New Maple Tops for Les Pauls
I specialize in re-topping Les Pauls with new maple tops, and then re-carving to vintage specs. If your looking for an exceptional flame or quilt maple top for your Les Paul, I have ‘em!

Guitar Refinishing
The Nitrocellulose Lacquer used will weather check in time just as vintage guitars. I can also weather check finishes giving a true vintage look as part of the restoration process. The checking is not an artificial process, but true cold checking. Lacquer coats are sprayed thin to help add to the tonal qualities of the instrument.

I use similar dyes and pore fillers as used in vintage 1950’s guitars. These dyes will produce the same fading effects on Sunburst finishes when exposed to light. I can also fade finishes as part of the restoration process giving the correct fade under pickguards, switch rings, knobs etc. This can be done to any level from slight fading to a total faded Burst.
My shop is a full service shop equipped to handle all work needed to restore your vintage guitar investment. References are available. upon request and all work is guaranteed to be of the finest craftsmanship.
Sorry, but finish fading and checking is not offered for Historic Reissue guitars as the lacquer and dyes may not produce the same effects. The process is only available with a re-finish.
